Indian movies with songs:

There was a time in Indian cinema where songs within the movies were an extension of emotions portrayed by a character/characters in a particular scene, prior to the song. In the recent past, it has become a necessity for the director to squeeze-in a song or two, just for the heck-of-it. Well, in the process of doing so, the pace and flow of the movie gets perturbed, unless the song is well made.

I have seen audience, in many occasions, pulling their hair in frustration (including me) during a song-sequence while watching a movie. There could only be four reasons why that would happen.

1. Bad song with bad lyrics(Meaning: Not catchy)
2. Song pops-in inappropriately
3. Making of the song gone terribly wrong
4. Songs not made in good-taste

If my memory is good, the only recent movie(if not so recent) which was made with few songs while helping the script(I call it: Rule of appropriate sequential threading) has to be, 'Satya'. However, when asked, Ram Gopal Varma said that he didn't want any songs in that movie but he added them for the heck-of-it. Anyways, who cares??? Everything was right about that movie. If anyone hasn't watched, 'Satya', watch it. It is worth watching once, may be twice.

Actually, there is a good list of movies made by Mani Ratnam, which followed the rule of appropriate sequential threading(In short: ROAST) *. This rule went haphazard with Mani Ratnam, starting from the movie, 'Dil Se'. Even though the songs where shot to perfection, the songs seemed inappropriate.

It is high-time that, our Indian movie directors think twice before adding a song for their movies. All the best to them.

Well, hoping to see some good movies with no songs or at least, songs made while doing justice to the movie-script.

* Rule of appropriate sequential threading: Songs added in a movie without disturbing the pace or flow, yet making reasonably good impact over the audience.
